Origins & Inspiration

The Late Paramount Chief Joseph Cyril Kapuwa Matoe iii, was a respected figure in Kenema, was known for his unwavering commitment to the welfare of orphans, semi-orphans, vulnerable children and street children. Having witnessed a region scarred by civil war, he witnessed firsthand the struggles of children left without families or resources. His vision was to create a sanctuary where every child, regardless of their circumstances, could find love, security and opportunity.

The late Paramount Chief Joseph Cyril Kapuwa Matoe iii passion was deeply personal. As a father, he adopted this vision as his own, driven by stories of children scavenging on the streets or facing exploitation due to poverty and loss.

After his passing, his daughter, Margaret Jinna Kapuwa, took up his mantle, founding the Joseph Cyril Kapuwa Matoe iii Foundation also known as The J.C.Kapuwa Foundation. Margaret resolve to honor her father’s legacy fueled the creation of a non-profit dedicated to transforming the lives of Kenema’s most vulnerable children.

The Hearts of JCkapuwa

At the core of J.C.kapuwa Foundation is its unwavering belief that every child deserves a chance to shine, no matter their background or abilities. The staff and volunteers embody this belief every day, from celebrating every child small victory to supporting them through moments of sensory overwhelm.

The children, too, uplift one another, forming bonds that transcend their differences.

The foundation impact extends beyond its gates. Through community outreach, J.C.Kapuwa will be hosting a workshop to educate local families about supporting children with special needs, reducing stigma and fostering inclusion. On social media, the foundation shares heartwarming updates – photos of children’s activities, and stories of their progress, inviting the world to join their mission.
